Another Chicago Pizza List? Apparently So.
Now, I know what you're thinking:
"Another person ranking Chicago pizza?"
Fair point.
This has been done countless times before.
Every newspaper has a list. Every food writer has a list. Every local TV station and social media influencer has a list. And every Chicagoan you meet seems to have a completely different list.
Some people will tell you deep dish is the only answer.
Others will insist deep dish is for tourists and tavern-style is the true Chicago pizza.
Some swear by neighborhood legends that have been around for decades, while others are convinced the best pizza in the city is hiding in a corner spot you've never heard of.
And the funny thing is?
They're all probably a little bit right.
Why This Is So Hard
That's what makes Chicago pizza different.
It's not just one style. It's not just one recipe. And it's definitely not just one restaurant.
Pizza is part of Chicago.
Everybody has a favorite. Everybody has a story. Everybody knows a place that "doesn't get enough credit."
Which is exactly why there will never be one answer that makes everyone happy.
So Why Am I Doing This?
Honestly?
Because it sounds fun.
I love Chicago. I love discovering local places. And I love any assignment that requires eating pizza.
Am I a food critic?
No.
Do I have a culinary degree?
Also no.
Have I developed a sophisticated pizza-scoring system with weighted categories and scientific calculations?
Absolutely not.
I'm just a guy with a website, a camera, and access to pizza.
But if nobody can agree on the answer, there's always room for one more opinion.
The Mission
Over the next several weeks, I'll be making my way through Chicago's pizza scene and sharing what I find along the way.
The goal isn't to crown a universal champion.
The goal is to discover some great pizza, meet some interesting people, and have a little fun doing it.
Will my final Top 5 be perfect?
No chance.
Will people disagree with it?
Almost certainly.
Will somebody tell me I completely missed their favorite spot?
Within minutes.
But that's half the fun.
Because in Chicago, talking about pizza might be almost as enjoyable as eating it.
Almost.
